Evaluation Question 1-

After completing my research, planning and construction, it was important I created my evaluation reflecting on the whole process so I could obtain feedback and learn how I could improve my project if created again. I will present my evaluation in a number of different formats.
Evaluation 1:
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I have annotated several shots from my music video comparing them with existing media products to show how we used, developed and challenged forms and conventions of real media products:

Video Links: Mike Snow- Animal, Daisy dares you- Number one enemy, Kasabian- Vlad the Impaler, Mumford and sons- Winter winds, Florence and the Machine- Dog days.

I have also created a video commentary describing how and why I created certain effects, shots and images, in my commentary you can see how my music video challenges, develops and uses forms and conventions of real media products overall; using the convergence of technology of my voice commentary on a voice recorder, I then imported my voice recording onto Windows Movie maker with my Youtube video of my music video. (the colour is slightly distorted and differs from the original in my final due to the compressed file on Youtube.)

I have also conveyed how we have used, challenges and developed forms and conventions of existing media products through our ancillary products below:

By comparing an existing media product with my own advertisement I could review how much progress I have made and how I used, developed or challenged this. I chose ‘The vines’ as it presented the same target audience as mine i.e. students who watch ‘indie/alternative’ music videos. They are both A4 to fit one page in a music magazine, I would distribute my magazine advert similar to ‘The Vines’ which featured in NME magazine, this magazine style would reflect my advertisement and provide a similar target audience as it is an ‘indie’ music magazine. Looking at the annotations you can see each factor the advertisements present. Both are similar, I found much inspiration from the ‘earthy’ natural feel ‘The Vines’ advert presents and developed this using a edited grassy background. The colour scheme is also developed inspired by greens, white and blacks stating both targets a similar audience. I also challenged this media product by providing information on the band, creating a single and having a main central image instead of artwork e.g. the rabbit mask as I felt this was more persuasive.

Starting the creation of my DigiPack I was predominately inspired by an album cover produced for the ‘indie/alternative’ band ‘The Auteur.’ It was an excellent example of how a subtle and understated design can be effective without overloading the consumer with information or clashing prints. The white colour scheme and interesting ‘earthy’ background intrigued me and I immediately wanted to create several drafts with this as inspiration, evidently we used a similar colour scheme and landscape background.

Overall we have used effective media conventions influenced by other media products throughout, this was shown in my research and planning of each product. I have applied my knowledge of other products in my final products, discovering that the most inspirational and effective products were subtle and understated and this was just as effective than having a chaotic unclear product. Our final products challenge contemporary media forms, they are unusual and not necessarily present a literal meaning of the song 'UFO' but a more symbolic and abstract ideal through our rabbit mask, and strange 'Alice in wonderland' music video which was greatly influenced by the 'indie' artist 'Florence and the Machine.' 'Poppy and the Jezebels' are a intriguing, distinctive band so this supported our product throughout.
