Research- Different& similar products

I have analysed several different and similar music videos as this is beneficial in securing my ideas for my target audience, I can compare how each video focuses on it's audience and also gain inspiration from individual effects:

This music video tells a story instead of having a choreographed dance or clips of a live band. This is effective for a pop genre but me and my peers want to do more of an indie genre so this wouldn't necessary work. Although if we decide to use actors this shows how they would look effective. I also like how the video switches to lots of different shots this versatility would be beneficial in my music video. Overall I think this video is successful as it suits it's target audience- young teenagers mainly female and its 'pop' genre, it also won female video of the year 2009 this reiterates it's effectiveness.

This music video is really effective, I like the location and the use of the golden leaves which contrasts against the artists white dress, the 'indie/pop' song reflects the music video. The music video looks accessible to produce and would be a good idea if my group decided on using actors and a similar 'wood' location as it supports our target audience.

This video supports our genre and target audience more. I like the unique outfits the band wear as it stands out. The overall design for this music video is extremely creative and original, I think it would also be accessible as they perform a choreographed dance on treadmills. Looking at this I would like to do something as creative with my music video as it's interesting. This video reiterates simple is sometimes more effective and supports my 'indie' genre.

This music video is more complex where it uses bold computer graphics that give a 3D effect. The mise-en-scene of the video is striking with the colourful makeup of the artist and supporting the 'techno' theme. I also like how even though there's only one person in this video it's still bright and effective. I like the quality of this video but feel it isn't as accessible for our group. This video has a similar target audience to my music video e.g teenagers but doesn't produce a prominent 'indie' feel so I probably wouldn't choose to base my music video on this.

This is one of my favourite music videos, I really like the actual concept it's extremely creative: they make the lead singer look like his flying as superman from clever low and high angle shots when really he is on the ground doing different actions against colourful chalk images, the video lets the animated chalk come alive so the singer is in time with the actual scenes. I think this is slightly too ambitious for our music video but we could use inspiration from the style and have certain shots as the genre of music i.e indie/alternative supports our target.

I like the mise-en-scene in this video where the aqua blue contrasts against the black and white effect. I also like the variety of camera shots, e.g the shot of the lead singer in blue and then cuts to a long shot of the band performing live with an audience. I also like how the shots overlap each other so you can see one fade. Overall I think this video supports my target audience and the 'indie' genre, I also think it would be quite simple for my group to create something similar.

This video is interesting the mise- en- scene is particularly alluring with the striking colour scheme. I like the strangeness of this music video and think the location is creative. I think this music video would be effective to produce as you could have several actors dress similar to this running around to a soundtrack, this is an option if my group and I decide against having an actual band and instead a soundtrack and actors. The actual concept is diverse and original and would look effective as it would stand out and support my indie/alternative genre.

This music video supports our initial idea of filming a band. The thing that stood out the most for me in this music video was the mise- en- scne. I like the colourful chalk on the floor, the confetti and the banners hung, the fluorescent colours make the actual band stand out. The camera shots where each band member suddenly turns into another person is refreshing, I also like the idea of using a tracking shot where the camera is fixed to a running track or rail and is here used to move backwards and forwards at a fast pace, this video attracts an 'indie'

Both these videos are by the same band but are very different. I like the black against the white confetti in the first one and think the design is clear reiterating the 'indie' feel with the band playing. On the second video I like the close up and slow motion shots where the lead singer dances, and I also think the location supports the song, however this would be very difficult to produce so i think the first video is more effective for my target audience and genre.

This is a different product to what me and my group are hoping to achieve, it is more of an RnB genre of music, but still produces the black and white effect and attracts a student audience.

I really like the effects in this video with the bright colours against the black shadows of the band reflecting it's 'indie' genre, I also like the shots of people dancing this would be a option if we wanted actors instead of a band.

This video is a good example of how inventive you can be with props and costumes, I like the humour and how this video switches between the different characters. I also like the 'TV' effect where we see a frame of a TV and the video through that. Again this is a different genre of music- 'RnB', but I like how as a whole it produces the effect as if your there in the scenes through the natural mise-en-scene- and the shots of the camera's filming.

This is an example of how you can use actors to a soundtrack with brief clips of the artist. This video is effective for showing all different characters in a humorous way and I think would attract a variety of different audiences which is good if I chose to produce a video with a vast target audience mainly focusing on a 'pop' genre, overall I think this video is effective.

This video reflects the genre of music we are targeting i.e 'indie.' This video supports are idea of following the band, it is accessible and the location supports the 'indie' feel. However from researching a vast amount of music videos I like the black and white effect and so would create this as well as the colours used here.
